The Emperor of the Moon

part of The Alcyone Festival 2013
September 6 - 28,  2013

Doctor Baliardo, a Neapolitan philosopher, is so enraptured with the mysteries of the Moon that he has come to believe it is peopled, ruled and regulated like the earth. He denies his daughter Elaria and his niece Bellemante to their respective lovers, the Viceroy's two nephews, Don Cinthio and Don Charmante, because they are mere men of Earth. The lovers are, however, secretly assisted in a trick against the Doctor by Scaramouch, the doctor's man, who is himself a rival of Harlequin, Cinthio's valet, for the hand of Mopsophil, governess to the young ladies. Disguises, song and dance, and hilarity ensue along the way.
